This course has a remarkable structure, incorporating guided planning, written feedback, and live coaching. You will plan, draft, and edit an actual work document in the course. You will receive detailed written feedback from your instructor on your actual document and planning, as well as a live coaching session to review your final document and discuss questions and insights.
Your instructor will provide detailed, individualized feedback on the incremental document planning exercises. Additionally, we include links to additional resources, examples, and clarification. You will understand what you are doing well and where to focus for improvement.
Because this is a practicum course -- you will plan and write an actual document -- you will learn where you tend to get stuck or are inefficient, or where your language could be more succinct or persuasive, and correct it.
We assess how well you target your audience, tailor content to that audience, organize and sequence information, and summarize implications. Additionally, we review your language, style, and grammar. A true review of your business writing should include all requisite elements.
All instructors are business writing experts with college-level teaching and mentoring experience, so you will receive high-level, expert feedback.

The first lesson in the course asks you to submit your course goals and describe the writing requirements for your position, as well as your current challenges. You will also identify the document you will write during the course.

While all other aspects of the course are available to you online 24/7, feedback is provided by your assigned instructor who follows standard business hours in ET. We strive to return all exercises within one business day of receipt, but you will always receive feedback within 48 business hours.
You simply upload your document into the course. Your instructor will be instantly notified that you have submitted an assignment. Once your instructor has reviewed your exercise, you will receive an email with their feedback.
Yes, you will be able to print out a certificate of completion once you have completed all lessons and activities.

All you need is a computer with internet access. The course is hosted on our end, so you simply log in to our course site with your assigned username and password.
No software downloads or plugins are required. We’ve delivered online courses to scientists conducting research on ships at sea! You’ll have no trouble accessing the course, but technical support is available to assist if you have any questions.
The official time frame for the course is two months of access, which is far more time than you will need. Client Care can extend course access for one more month at no additional charge if needed. Courses cannot be open indefinitely because we've assigned an instructor specifically to you.
You may start the course at any time. And, you may log in and out of the course as often as you wish, following your preferred schedule.
One advantage of an online self-paced practicum course is that you can skim the materials you know and delve deeply into your challenge areas, therefore individual completion time varies widely. The best way to envision course scope might be to compare it to an onsite class. If we were to deliver the same content to you in a classroom, we would need one full day of training and a half-day of individual coaching to cover the same content.
Online training will always take less time than onsite. The average time on task to complete an online practicum course across all participants is approximately seven hours.
